EVENTS / MEETINGS |
- Lititz Run Watershed Alliance Annual Spring Cleanup Day - Saturday, March 17th from 8-11AM at various locations through the Lititz Run watershed. Over a hundreds of volunteers will be spread ut throughout the watershed picking up trash, planting trees, and doing their part to improve local water quality. This annual event has grown every year but additional volunteers are always needed. Volunteers are asked to dress for early Spring weather conditions and to be prepared to get a little dirty. Refreshments will be provided for those that assist. To register visit the Warwick Township website.
- Pequea Creek Watershed Association Spring Stream Cleanup & Assessment - Saturday, April 21st from 9AM-noon at the Quarryville Sewage Treatment Plant (Old Rd. off of Route 222, Quarryville). Join members of the Pequea Cr. group as they conduct a streamside cleanup of a tributary of the Big Beaver Cr. In addition to the cleanup the group will also be assessing the tributary for possible future stream restoration or tree planting opportunities. Volunteers are asked to dress for streamside conditions with boots, gloves, long pants and long sleeves.
- Chiques Creek Watershed Alliance Spring Cleanup Event - Saturday, April 28th from 9-11AM at Mummau Park & Logan Park (Route 772, Manheim). Join members of the Chiques Cr. group for this annual spring cleaning event. Volunteers will be cleaning up Rife Run which flows through both parks, planting trees, and removing invasive tree and shrub species from the parks. Volunteers should dress for outdoor working conditions with long pants and long sleeves, work gloves, and boots.

- Mill Creek Preservation Association Watershed Tour/Meeting - Thursday, February 16th at 2PM at the Ressler Mill Carriage House (Route 772, Mascot).
- Donegal Fish & Conservation Association Meeting - Thursday, February 16th at 7PM at Donegal Presbyterian Church (Donegal Springs Rd., Mount Joy).

- Donegal Fish & Conservation Association Annual Spring Sports Show - Saturday, March 10th from 4-9PM at the Donegal High School Gymnasium. Come one, come all to this annual event held by members of the DFCA. Check out countless outdoor sport displays, local unique crafts, items to purchase, live animals, a guest speaker, and door prizes. In addition, Harvey's BBQ will be selling food and drinks during the event. The show is free but there is a charge for door prizes. Check out the DFCA website for more information.
- Water Quality Volunteer Coalition Meeting - Wednesday, March 14th at 2:30PM at the Farm & Home Center (Arcadia Rd., Lancaster).
- Donegal Trout Unlimited's Annual Banquet - Saturday, March 31st from 5-10PM at the Lancaster Host Resort (Route 30). Come support DTU in their annual fund raising banquet. This great event has everything from raffles, silent and vocal auctions, games, music, and great food. All proceeds from the event go toward coldwater resource protection efforts here in Lancaster County. For more information check out the DTU website.

TIMELY FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES |
- The Foundation for PA Watersheds is requesting organizations with an interest in applying for their Spring grant round to submit letters of intent by February 13th with an application date of March 12th. Fall letters of intent will be due August 24th with applications due September 28th. - The Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited (PATU) will be accepting Trout in the Classroom (TIC) Grant Applications until February 24th for the 2012/2013 school year. Trout in the Classroom is an interdisciplinary program in which students in grades 3rd through 12th learn about coldwater conservation while rasining brook trout eggs to fingerlings in a classroom aquarium. All classrooms end the year by releasing their trout into a state approved waterway. Grant applications and additional program information are available on the PA Trout in the Classroom website.
- National Energy Company, Constellation Energy, is accepting applications for its annual EcoStar Grant Program, which provides qualifying nonprofit organizations with funds to implement projects that support the company's commitment to environmental stewardship. The EcoStar Program targets community-based projects that fit into one or more of five stewardship categories - pollution prevention, education and outreach, energy efficiency, conservation, and community activism. To qualify for a grant, a project should be located in an area where Constellation does business. Applications should include a project budget that details how the grant award will be spent. Grant awards will be up to $5,000 with funds provided through the Constellation Energy Foundation. Grant applications are due March 10th. - The League of Women Voters open ups Water Resource Education Network (WREN) grant cycle. The League's Pennsylvania Citizen Education Fund funds a limited number of community based educational projects that protect and improve the community's water resources. The Watershed Education Grant Program seeks to raise public awareness, encourage behavior change and improve public policies to protect water resources. WREN invites grant proposals from local coalitions that will raise awareness and educate Pennsylvania citizens, local officials, and other community stakeholders about their roles as environmental stewards to protect, improve, or remediate the watershed from the impacts of polluted runoff. Grant applications are due back to WREN by March 23rd and all projects run from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. For more information or for a grant applications visit the WREN website.
- The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) currently has an open grant round for its Community Conservation Partnership Program (C2P2) Grant. In 2012, the DCNR grant program will focus on making grant awards that enhance the Commonwealth's recreation and conservation infrastructure. Specific priorities for grant proposals include: the rehab. of existing park and recreation facilities, particularly through the incorporation of green principles; trail projects that close gaps in major statewide greenways and regionally significant trails; implementation of Rivers Conservation Plans including enhancing water trails and improving public river access; planning to help park and recreation facilities become greener; land conservation for critical habitat, key connectors, expansion of existing park and recreation areas and the establishment of new community parks; and projects identified by regional partnerships including Conservation Landscape Initiatives, Heritage Areas, and statewide significant greenways. A series of workshops will be held in February and March for potential applicants for the grant program. Grant deadline is April 4th and all applications must be through DCNR's Environmental eGrants Systems. For more information on the C2P2 grant or the applicant workshops visit the DCNR website.
- The
Wallace Genetic Foundation is offering grant opportunities
to non-profit organizations whose projects focus on long-term conservation of
the soil and of the environment rather than the exploitation of natural
resources for temporary profit. The foundation seeks applications from
far-sighted organizations with innovative ideas. Specific areas of
interest are: agriculture, farmland preservation, conservation of natural
resources, biodiversity protection, reduction of environmental toxins, and
global climate issues. Grants generally range between $25,000 and $40,000.
Applicants may submit either a letter of inquiry or a full proposal.
